I was able to take this picture of me, my mom, sister and Aunt right before my Grandma passed away.
My Gram was known for her beautiful hands and perfect fingernails.
I wrote this poem for my Gram, right after she passed. She truly was a Woman before her time.
A Woman of time.
What do you say, about this woman before her time?
Loving mother to four, and grandma to nine.
But as we all know, these numbers aren’t true
As she mothered and cared for all, those numbers quickly grew
She loved everyone, as if you were her own
Whether a visit, a note, or a chat on the phone
It was always a treat, to hear of her stories
Her world travels, her thoughts, & political worries.
Our only argument, was because, I couldn’t refrain
On my thoughts of Sarah Palin & Senator McCain
But as she later taught me as she so often would do
Was stick to what you believe in, & what’s important to you.
There are so many memories, I never will forget
All the time that was spent, with not one regret
Like the hot summer days, swimming in her pool
She fed us Kool-Aid & tuna, til our bellies were full
HI Miss Muffet! Was always her greeting
We then chat about our days, and what we were reading.
Her fingernails were kept, always painted and filed
Her blue eyes lit up, as she laughed and she smiled.
You can’t do it all, she often told me
Cut your list down, and soon you will see
There is always time, for clean up and dishes
Make time for what you want, and complete all your wishes.
Gram loved to visit Evanston, to see a horse race
Always making sure, we had sunscreen for our face.
She enjoyed going to Hill Air Force, to see an air show
She did get her pilots license you know?
I loved to hear stories, of her travels over sea
And that same love for cultures, she has instilled within me
As I travel next month, I dedicate this one to you
While I fly clear across, the ocean so blue.
There are too many memories, and not enough time
To share this incredible love, & appreciation of mine.
I truly can say, you are my best friend
And I feel with time, my broken heart will soon mend.
I know you are happy, spending time with your sister
Please tell her to take care of you, & how much we’ve missed her
I will never really be able, to share all my thanks
But know as you are fishing, on heaven’s river banks
That I am down here, always thinking of you
And how my love runs, so deep and so true.
I miss you already, more then you know
But I know in heaven, it was time for you to go
Please know you will always be the biggest hero of mine
My gram, my best friend, a true woman of time.
